[DENVER, CO] – The Southwest Energy Efficiency Project (SWEEP) and its Executive Director Elise Jones were honored as the “Partner of the Year” at Conservation Colorado’s prestigious 2024 Rebel with a Cause event last week. The celebration, which brought together legislators, activists, donors, and community leaders, highlighted the outstanding contributions of SWEEP to environmental protection and sustainability efforts in Colorado.
Conservation Colorado, a leading organization dedicated to protecting Colorado’s climate, air, land, water, and communities, celebrated the shared successes of their partners in a night filled with inspiring conversations and recognition of environmental achievements. The award given to SWEEP underscores the significant impact the organization has had in advancing energy efficiency, beneficial electrification, and clean transportation across the state, as well as the broader southwest region.
Elise Jones, a notable environmental leader and former executive director of Conservation Colorado’s predecessor, Colorado Environmental Coalition, received the award on behalf of SWEEP. Under her leadership, SWEEP has been instrumental in several key policy advancements in Colorado this year, including reducing carbon emissions from cars and buildings, securing substantial new transit funding, and spurring legislation to enable climate-friendly affordable housing opportunities.
“We are deeply honored to be recognized by Conservation Colorado as their Partner of the Year,” said Elise Jones. “This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire SWEEP team and our collaborative efforts with numerous stakeholders to create a more sustainable and equitable future.”
Special commendations were also given to SWEEP staff members Matt Frommer, Travis Madsen, Christine Brinker, and Justin Brant, who joined Elise Jones in person to receive the award. Their expertise and collaborative work have been vital in achieving significant environmental milestones in Colorado over the past year.
Founded in 2001, SWEEP has made remarkable strides in improving energy efficiency, avoiding new power plants, and reducing climate emissions over the past 22 years. The organization’s work is supported by a diverse group of funders, including charitable foundations, federal agencies, business allies, and major donors.
Conservation Colorado, with a history spanning over 50 years, continues to be at the forefront of the fight to protect Colorado’s natural beauty and resources. The organization’s work in electing pro-conservation leaders and holding decision-makers accountable is critical to achieving progress on both climate and equity.
